  • About: The Russian term "Samisdat" means self-published and describes illegal underground-publications in former communist countries. Fighting for civil rights, freedom of speech & press and against censorship publishers often had to face oppression by the government – surveillance, prison sentences, penalties etc. Under adventurous circumstances they appropriated ink, paper and printing machines and tried to spread the word.
  • An interview collage with former publishers are presented in an audio feature along with faksimile riso-prints of the original publications. A poster of the pro-governmental newspaper "Neues Deutschland" shows the title page of May 1st from the years 1985 to 1989 and once more pictures the power of media control.
